2020 Dandy Outfits and Backstories
Here are some of the outfit highlights of a rather un-highlightable year
This hasn't been, by any stretch of the imagination, a normal year for my dandyism nor my dandy outfits, but I was still able to produce some outfits which I felt, and others felt, were still amazing, in spite of one of the worst years in our modern collective. Here are some of them, each accompanied with backstories.

When I first wore this outfit in April 2018 for a small gathering at Trade, I wanted to highlight the importance of my Blackness and African heritage, not realizing that, years later, it would be even more impactful. This year two very important flashpoints in our society occurred:
1) The COVID-19 pandemic
2) Racially motivated tension and violence following the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and more
I had to create, or re-create, an outfit that illustrates the importance of social responsibility with my black life, and our Black Lives, needing to matter, in the midst of incredible injustices (read more about all of that here). It was a hit among steampunks and mainstreamers of all races, and it was hated by racists everywhere.

I planned this outfit, to date among my favorites that I ever planned, including heeled pink glitter shoes, for months, after finding out that I was to receive the honor of walking the runway at Cherry, one of DC's largest and most well-known LGBTQ+ fundraiser events. Unfortunately, that wasn't to be, as we all know why.. however, I was determined to wear the outfit anyway, thus, I did, and converted my basement of my condo into my runway and walked that. Tenacity (and creativity) will find a way!

So this outfit was a reproduction of an outfit I did at C.O.G.S. Expo May 2019 that is one of my most popular outfits this year; so much so that it won Best Dressed 2020 for me at Trade, my second title that I won in a row! I mean, seriously, it was this popular.

This outfit has a very special place in my heart. In November 2016 it was part of a suite of outfits, among my favorite group of outfits, that I wore at Teslacon. I reproduced it and, well, I'll let you read all about it.

To be given the honor by one of DC's premier drag queens to star in a music video reproduction of Beyonce's "Black Parade", on Black Lives Matter Plaza, to support the election via #DragOutTheVote; this one of the only events I could (safely of course) do this year, and definitely one of the coolest, and most important, events I have ever done as a dandy!
