Finding out about the recent CDC guidelines for fully immunized persons regarding
COVID-19 yesterday, May 13, 2021, regarding how fully immunized persons were no longer needing to wear masks nor socially distance unless in public spaces which mandate wearing masks and/or social distancing, was, to me, a brand new day.
Wearing a mask wasn't as much of an issue for me (I mean, I wrote this),
however, social distancing was very much an issue for me, as I am an ambivert who actually enjoys being around other people that I understand, especially those other men that I could eventually date.
An entire year of my life was lost to me. My dandyism, my art, and, to an extent, my life, particularly my social life, thrive on the existence of gatherings and events
(like these), and I was deprived of all of them. I trusted science, of course, but it still hurt.. deeply, deeply hurt.
I put together the most amazing outfit, IMHO, for my debut runway walk at Cherry, one of the largest non-Pride events in DC (see image above). I was beyond honored
and excited to do this. This wasn't the only art-affirming event that was lost to me in 2020:
-- C.O.G.S. Expo and the Dandy Walk
-- Pride
-- Independence Day celebrations
-- Honcho
-- Labor Day festivities
-- DragCon
-- Halloween
-- The Cemetery Potluck
-- Teslacon
Now before you accuse me of "brat mode" or caring about my own feelings in spite of the pain of others, allow me to say that:
-- My feelings are valid
-- I lost my job, nearly lost my dad twice, and even contemplated suicide over being called "an alarmist", "an elitist", a "complete moron", and a lot more, by friends of mine
over my fear of traveling while black
Again, I obeyed the science because of its importance, but it came at a personal cost to me, and I lost an entire year. I plan to regain it as soon as events start happening again; I need to get my dandyism out there, and I am very happy that
we as a collective society have embraced science, for the most part, and got "vaxxed up". And if you haven't, get vaccinated!
